• A Treasure Trove of Information

    A Treasure Trove of Bobbin Information Greetings Sewing Friends! I came upon a helpful website today, and just have to share it with you. It's called The Thread Exchange. It seems they have a list a mile long of every sewing manufacturer known to mankind. The helpful thing about this list is that they have an even longer list of machine models AND... (just for fun, push play below!) .....the type of bobbin the machines use!!!! As I looked through the list, I discovered there are a lot of bobbin types I did not even know existed. I found this link[...]

    "e;Oh, You Are Killing It!"e;

    During the pandemic, I happened upon a couple help wanted ads for an expert in any given field, so I decided to apply and offer sewing classes. I was offered both positions. This morning, I received a couple class evaluations from my supervisor for the class Sewing in A Nutshell that I teach at Frederick Community College. The subject of the email grabbed my attention right away: "Oh, you are killing it!"subject line of an email from my supervisor at Frederick Community College My classes are geared towards adults as part of the Institute for Learning in [...]

    Website Under Construction

    It's October 18, 2023, and it's that time again. My website is under construction. Also, my email is not working properly, so please be patient with me. If it has to be reset, it will take up to 72 hours, depending upon when that button is "pushed." So, give me until next week to have my email account back up and running.

    Heirloom Sewing for Beginners

    Once upon a time ago, not too long ago, I was a beginner sewer. The year was around 2007, and I recently purchased my very own sewing machine. This machine was so special that I gave her the name "Big Sister". It was because of Big Sister that I am where I am today. Big Sister was a Singer Quantum XL 6000, and her super power was...she threaded herself. That's right!!! She threaded herself! All I had to do was simply pull about 8" of thread from the spool and guide it to the left to a thread cutter. (I remember spending a whole day trying to decipher instructions printed in a [...]

    Hand Dyed Cotton In 2022, I tried a lot of new things as I expanded my knowledge in the realms of mixed media and art quilting. Kevin Womack taught a dying class at the yearly Mid-Appalachian Quilters Retreat in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. It was so much fun, and these fabrics are so gorgeous. Nope, I haven't cut them up yet. I'm still in disbelief that I dyed something so beautiful on my first try! Look at how much beautiful color our dyed fabric added to the landscaping at the college! Everyone had a different color scheme and the results were amazing!!! Even my bits of [...]

    Start Each Day with a Grateful Heart To the best of my knowledge, I completed this wall hanging in February, 2019. It was gifted to a co-worker upon her retirement. The main part is a pre-printed panel from Designs in Machine Embroidery (DiME) and I used an included wood grain embroidery design to embroider the background. This was a lot of fun to work on and I used many built-in features of the Baby Lock Destiny to design and create the heart “paw print” embroidery design. Created in IQ Designer in a Baby Lock Destiny. The most exquisite detail of this wall hanging is [...]

    Nailed It!

    Greetings Sewing Friends! I recently posted this picture on my Facebook page for fun and captioned it Nailed It. Thank you all for the response and requests for a video. As promised, here is a video showing you two Clover notions I use to make this happen. Clover's Fork Pins, pictured on the left, are key to getting points to match up perfectly! As you can see, this is a U shaped pin, so it's like having two pins in one. What makes this so special is that it prevents the fabric from shifting. Nest your seams together as usual, and use the Fork Pin to straddle the seam. In the [...]

    How exciting it to see my name in print in a trade publication! I thought I should jump on here and add a post announcing Spools & Tools, since this is my specialty. If you would like a copy of my Spools & Tools brochure, just send me a quick email to Michelle@SewingMachineArtistry and I will get one out to you!
